Everything about starting marketing, growing, and funding companies gets me fired up. It’s my passion, career, and hobby. So it’s only natural for me to spend a majority of my time reading and learning from others that have done exceedingly well. Here are five of my favorite startup writers.

1. Jason Calacanis – Angel Investor
You may know Jason from his podcast, This Week In Startups. With over 500 episodes all on startups it continues to be a huge resource for the first time founder and the experienced founder alike. He is an angel investor in billion dollar ridesharing company Uber. He is the founder ofInside.com a new media company aimed at disrupting the media industry. Additionally he created the Launch Festival, the largest startup conference in the world. This years conference will be on March 2nd – 4th in San Francisco, definitely not an event to miss. Hope to see you there.
Since the start of the year Jason has committed to writing and shedding light on often less talked about subjects. His style is direct and to the point. He offers extraordinary amounts of actionable information in every post. (Link to Jason’s Blog) His Twitter handle is @Jason.

2. Mark Suster – Both Sides of The Table
Mark has an awesome track record in startups. He has been on “both sides” of the table as a founder and now as a venture capitalist. He founded two companies both of which were acquired. The latter company, KoralI, was bought by SalesForce. Now he is a General Partner atUpfront Ventures. I have found his insights to be extremely helpful in understanding the nuances of funding and the behavioral aspects of startups. (Link to Mark’s Blog) His Twitter handle is @msuster.

3. Brad Feld – Venture Capitalist
Brad Feld’s blog is one of the first ones I ever came across when entering into the world of venture capital and startups. It continues to be one of the most humbling and genuine blogs I have seen in the industry. Being a founder is hard as you are constantly fighting an uphill battle. There are times when you may feel like your startup is on fire, in the good way, and a minute later you may feel like your startup is on fire and all hell is breaking loose.
Brad discusses these moments and is extremely open about managing his depression. His writings about the up’s and downs of the entrepreneurial journey have made me realize that everyone has up’s and down’s and that it is completely okay and not something to be ashamed of. I have the highest respect for this kind of transparency. (Link to Brad’s Blog) His Twitter handle is @bfeld.

4. Andrew Chen – Startup Marketing & Metrics
Andrew is an epic product guy. His writing has greatly helped clarify my understanding of product market fit. Andrew writes with great detail and often provides visuals to explain what he is communicating. He also has written terrific “how-to” content on customer acquisition and key metrics to track and focus on. (Link to Andrew’s Blog) His Twitter handle is @AndrewChen.

5. Benedict Evans – Industry & Data
Benedict Evans is a partner at the venture capital firmAndreessen Horowitz. He writes about industry trends and does in depth analysis with data in many of his posts. If you enjoy long and data packed posts you will love Ben’s blog.
The first post I read of his was, “Why Amazon Has No Profits (And Why It Works)”. I have never seen a post as in depth and jammed packed with data than this. With seemly limited data he was able to extract more information than many investment bankers could. The favorite post below explains how he goes about the process of modeling to find out the seemingly impossible. (Link to Ben’s Blog) His Twitter handle is @BenedictEvans
