Kevin Rose and Marc Hemeon founded North Technologies. That is where Watchville came out of. Tinny was another app that the team developed which they later shutdown. See this post by Kevin which explains further: (https://medium.com/p/14254524f9b6)
Watchville focuses on the high-end watch collectors and enthusiasts. It started to take off. Then Watchville merged with Hondikee which Kevin announced on June 11th, 2015.
This is from Kevin's Medium Post announcing the merger: (https://medium.com/p/131f556f2d42)
North Technologies’ latest app Watchville has exceeded our expectations. Last month we crossed 1.3 million app sessions, making us the largest watch news site on mobile. This growth is something we’ve decided to focus on exclusively and we found a great partner who shares our vision.
That's why today we’re thrilled to announce that Watchville is merging with HODINKEE, the world’s leading online wristwatch magazine, featuring news, in-depth reviews, videos, critiques, and reports on watches of a particularly high quality. We are aligned in our quest to create the preeminent resource for modern and vintage wristwatch enthusiasts on mobile and the web. As part of the merger, I’ll be moving to New York where I will join HODINKEE as CEO, while founder Ben Clymer will remain Executive Chairman and Editorial Director.
This New York Times article explains why he is moving: http://nyti.ms/1TdqjOL.
**Biggest Reason In My Opinion: **New York is to fashion as the Bay Area is for technology. This will allow him and the rest of his team to build relationships with the major players in the fashion and accessory industry.
